How to Pass a C&P Exam
A compensation and pension exam – also known as a C&P exam or a VA claim exam is a part of the process when a veteran files a claim with the VA for VA disability compensation or pension benefits. This exam helps the VA determine if a veteran has a disability related to their military service or if their condition deserves an increased rating.
A C&P exam is not the same as a regular medical appointment because the VA’s examiner does not provide any treatment, prescribe any medicine, or make referrals to specialists. The only role of the examiner is to identify or confirm disabilities on your application and provide a record to a VA claims processor.

What Does a VA C&P Exam Consist Of?
The VA may request more than one claim exam when a veteran submits a claim for multiple disabilities, although the VA tries to schedule multiple exams for the same day.
Some C&P exams can be short but others can last over an hour. After the exam, the examiner will complete a report that includes an analysis of any clinical test results. The veterans has the right to request and receive copies of these test results.
Do’s And Dont’s Of A C&P Exam
Be sure to always attend the C&P exams and be on time. If a veteran misses the exam, this can lead to a delayed decision on their claim.
Call and confirm the time, date, and location of the exam before you attend it.
Lastly, always submit all medical evidence with your application or to a VA regional office before you attend your C&P exam.

What Will Happen After My VA C&P Exam?
After the C&P exam is complete, a report will be sent to a VA claims processor from the examiner. This report will be added to your claim file and will be used in deciding on your claim through the VA.
