2025 VA Disability Pay Rates and Cost of Living Adjustment
Starting this month, veterans receiving VA disability benefits will see an increase in monthly benefits. That’s because for veterans, the 2025 cost of living adjustment (COLA) takes effect on December 1, 2024. Here’s what you can expect.
How Much is the 2025 COLA?
The 2025 VA disability benefits increase is 2.5%. That’s lower than increases in the past few years, since inflation has cooled. The COLA is determined by the Social Security Administration (SSA), using information about the change in the cost of living from Q3 of one year to Q3 of the next.
Since the increase is percentage-based, the dollar-amount increase in VA disability benefits will be larger for veterans at higher disability ratings who have higher base benefits. Here’s how that plays out:
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 10% rating will receive $175.51/month–an increase of $4.28 from the 2024 rate of $171.23
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 20% rating will receive $346.95/month–an increase of $8.46 from the 2024 rate of $338.49
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 30% rating will receive $537.42/month–an increase of $13.11 from the 2024 rate of $524.31
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 40% rating will receive $774.16/month–an increase of $18.88 from the 2024 rate of $755.28
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 50% rating will receive $1,102.04/month–an increase of $26.94 from the 2024 rate of $1,075.16
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 60% rating will receive $1,395.93/month–an increase of $34.05 from the 2024 rate of $1,361.88
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 70% rating will receive $1,759.19/month–an increase of $42.88 from the 2024 rate of $1,716.28
- A veteran receiving benefits based on an 80% rating will receive $2,044.89/month–an increase of $49.88 from the 2024 rate of $1,995.01
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 90% rating will receive $2,297.96/month–an increase of $56.05 from the 2024 rate of $2,241.91
- A veteran receiving benefits based on a 100% rating will receive $3,831.30/month–an increase of $93.45 from the 2024 rate of $3,737.85
If the veteran qualifies for add-ons such as benefits for qualified dependents or receives special monthly compensation (SMC), those benefits will be increased by the same percentage.
